4th of July: fireworks, food, & fun!

As Independence Day rapidly approaches, many Americans will prepare to celebrate with friends and family over a barbecue grill and under the biggest, brightest firework displays around.  This year, as we gather to help The United States blow out  its 240 candles, let’s take a moment to remember some of the littlest, yet most interesting details you may or may not have known about our nation’s origin:

  • Though Continental Congress voted for independence from England on July 2nd, 1776, it wasn’t until July 4th that a draft of the Declaration of Independence was officially approved.
  • Most of the men who signed the Declaration of Independence did not actually do so until August 2, 1776.
  • Believe it or not, July 4th did not become a legal federal US holiday until 1938.
  • John Adams, Thomas Jefferson, and James Monroe — three of the first five US presidents — died on the 4th of July, several years after the country was formed..
  • Other countries, such as Norway, Denmark, Sweden, and even England herself, hold scelebrations for America’s independence.

However you choose to celebrate this year, please do so responsibly.  Pasta Roma wishes you a safe, happy 4th of July weekend, from our family to yours!
